Eidovelle

Support

Last updated 22 August 2026.

This page works whether or not you still have the app installed. If you have deleted Eidovelle and something happened, everything you need is here.

If something happened during or after a voyage

If you are unwell right now, stop reading and speak to a doctor. If it is serious, call emergency services. Nothing on this page is more urgent than that.

If you are all right and want to tell us what happened, write to:

[email protected]

That address is read by a person, every day, and a person replies to it. Usually within a day. It is not an emergency line and it is not watched overnight, so if you are unwell now, use the line above.

This is the most useful thing anybody sends us.

The stop instruction, for reference

If light is running and something feels wrong

Cover one eye with your palm. Turn the phone face down.

One eye, with your palm. Closing both eyes does not stop it. Your eyelids let light through and spread it across more of the retina, which is why the voyage works at all with your eyes shut.

Touching the lower half of the screen also ends the voyage. Sit up slowly afterwards.

Things worth stopping for, rather than waiting to see: twitching or involuntary movement, muscle spasms, a lapse in awareness, confusion, a strong feeling of déjà vu, or strong dizziness or faintness. If any of those happened, speak to a doctor before you use light again.

What to put in a report

If you still have the app, Settings then Report explains the route and points here. It does not compose or send anything, and nothing about a report leaves your phone. A sealed route inside the app is being built and does not exist yet.

Useful to include, as much or as little as you have:

  • What you felt.
  • When it started: during a voyage, straight after, or hours later.
  • How long it lasted.
  • Which world, and how long it was set for.
  • What you were doing when it began.
  • Whether you had slept badly, had been drinking, or had stopped taking something regular.

You do not have to write it well and you do not have to be sure it was the app. A vague report is worth far more than a report you did not send.

Email is not private. What you write will sit on your mail provider's servers and on ours. Send only as much as you are comfortable sending. There is deliberately no symptom form on this website, because we do not want that detail in a web server's logs and database.

What we do with it

We read it, we reply to you, and we look at the voyage you named. If there is any doubt about that particular voyage we take it out of circulation while we look.

If you logged the voyage as anything other than Fine, the app is already holding the light back. It keeps holding it until you clear it yourself, by tapping I am fine now on the library screen. That is a deliberate act and never a timer. The app takes your word for it and verifies nothing. Audio is untouched: what is held is the light.

The hold only exists if you logged the voyage. If you left without answering the comfort question, nothing is held, and if something happened you should not use light again until you have spoken to a doctor.

Telling someone other than us

You are entitled to tell somebody other than us and you do not need our agreement to do it. Your own doctor is the person to start with, and they are the only person who can tell you what happened to you. For a problem with the app itself, Apple takes reports through the App Store.

There is no consumer reporting scheme in the United States that covers a product like this one, because Eidovelle is not a medical device and is not sold as one. We would rather say that plainly than point you at a route that does not apply.

What the app does, and who must not use it

Eidovelle pulses your phone's torch at your closed eyelids while music and narration play. It is a flickering light held close to your face for as long as half an hour.

Do not use Eidovelle if you have photosensitive epilepsy, if you have ever had a seizure of any kind, or if a first-degree relative has epilepsy whose cause was never established. Flicker in the 3 to 60 Hz range can bring on a seizure in people who are photosensitive, whether or not they know they are. Eidovelle stays at or under 13.0 Hz and never enters the 13.5 to 25 Hz band where the published risk is highest, and that lowers the risk rather than removing it. Headache, eye strain, dizziness and nausea are the common reactions and they happen to people who are not photosensitive at all.

The app asks a set of questions before it will run light for the first time, and it does not run light for anyone it stops. That screening decides one thing only, which is whether this app will run light for you. It is a set of questions, not a test. Passing it is not an assurance that flicker will not affect you, and around half of the people who react to flicker have never been told they are photosensitive.

The full contraindication list is on the Safety page and it is readable without installing anything.

Reaching a human about anything else

[email protected]

For everything that is not urgent: billing, a voyage that will not start, a question about how something works, a complaint, or telling us the app is wrong about something.

One person answers, usually within two working days. We cannot give medical advice and will not try. If that is what you need we will say so and point you to a doctor.

Before you write about something not working, the questions further down solve most of it.

Device compatibility

What you need to install it

  • An iPhone with a camera flash.
  • iOS 17 or later.
  • iPhone only. iPad, iPod touch and Mac are not supported. Android is not supported at launch.

The App Store will not offer Eidovelle to a device without a flash, so if you can install it, the hardware is there. No other model requirement exists and no iPhone with a flash running iOS 17 or later is excluded.

How the light is bounded

The flicker waveform is limited in the app itself rather than per handset. It runs between 0.5 and 13.0 Hz, it never enters the 13.5 to 25 Hz band, and the torch level is capped at 0.6 of maximum. Those limits are compiled into the app and are identical on every phone that runs it. Every limit, and where each one comes from.

What is not checked yet

Torch timing is not the same on every handset, and iOS updates have changed it under phones that behaved differently a month earlier. Version 1.0 does not measure the torch timing of your particular handset, and no handset is refused the light on timing grounds. What the app does instead is watch the timing while a voyage runs and end the voyage if the phone cannot hold it. Per-handset qualification before the first voyage is being built. When it ships, this page will say so, and it will name any model or iOS version we find that consistently fails.

Nothing is named here today. That is because the measurement is not running yet, not because every phone has passed.

If the light is not available to you

Every world plays as audio, at every length, and the audio form is a designed thing rather than a broken version of the light one. It is the same price. The light is not available in that case, and that is a real difference rather than a technicality. The reasons the light is withheld are listed under the first question below.

Cancelling a subscription

Eidovelle is sold on the App Store and nowhere else. Apple takes the payment, so cancellation happens in iOS rather than in Eidovelle. It takes about fifteen seconds:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Tap Eidovelle.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription.

If you cannot see it there, the same list is in the App Store app under your profile picture, and Apple's own instructions are at support.apple.com/billing.

Things worth knowing

  • Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep everything until the end of the period you have already paid for.
  • Deleting the app does not cancel anything. This catches people out on every app on the store. Cancel first, delete second.
  • If you are inside the 21 day free trial on the annual plan, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends or the year will be charged. The trial is on the annual plan only.
  • There are three prices and these are all of them: a month at $4.99, a year at $34.99 with 21 days free first, and Founding at $99.99, which is a one-time purchase of the whole library including worlds added later.
  • Founding is not a subscription. There is nothing to cancel and nothing will renew.

Refunds

Apple is the merchant for everything bought in the app, so refunds go through reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue them ourselves.

If you paid and then found the light was not available to you, whether because the screening stopped you or for any other reason, write to us. We will write to Apple in support of the refund. If Apple refuses and you think that is wrong, tell us and we will write to them again.

What happens after you cancel

You keep the app. You keep the free tier: the opening voyage, one flagship world, and whichever worlds are free that week. Your voyage log is untouched, because it is on your phone and was never ours to take away.

Questions that come up

The app will not run light for me

One of five things, and the screen usually says which.

  • Screening stopped you, and the app named the category that did it.
  • You told the app before this voyage that you slept badly, or that you had been drinking or are cutting back on alcohol or a sedative. All of those raise sensitivity to flicker, so the light waits and the audio worlds are open. Those two questions come back before every voyage and a clear answer opens the light again.
  • You logged your last voyage as anything other than Fine, so the light is held. Tap I am fine now on the library screen to clear it.
  • The camera permission was refused. iOS only holds steady torch timing while a camera session is open, so without it the light cannot run.
  • The iOS accessibility setting that dims flashing lights is switched on. The app respects it.

I answered a screening question wrongly

Settings, then screening. It starts again from the first question. What it said before stays on your phone as a dated record, which is intended.

Screening stopped me. What does that mean?

The app named the category that stopped it. That is a statement about whether this app will run light for you. It is not a finding about your health and it is not a medical opinion. You can answer the questions again from Settings.

I answered "Unsure" and now I am blocked

Unsure is read the same way as Yes on every question that can stop you, because unsure about a seizure history is not the same as no. Screening again from Settings is the route back if you know the answer now.

I got a new phone and my log is empty

Your log was never in your iCloud backup, so it did not travel. Nothing was lost by accident and nothing can be recovered, by us or by anyone. If you want a copy before switching phones, export it from the Atlas first.

The voyage stopped on its own

It does that on purpose in several situations: the phone got warm, you left the app, the timing wandered, the torch stopped answering, or the accessibility setting that dims flashing lights was switched on. The screen tells you which. None of them are your fault and none of them mean the app is broken.

My phone got warm

Running the torch for half an hour is work. The app watches the thermal state iOS reports and ends the voyage when it rises, which is why a long voyage occasionally ends early on a warm day or in a case. The phone will get warm regardless. Rest it on a surface beside you rather than against your skin.

Do I need headphones?

The sound is built for them and it is a noticeably different thing without. The app will tell you once if you are on the phone speaker and then leave you alone about it.

Why does it want the camera?

iOS only holds steady torch timing while a camera session is open. Nothing is recorded, seen or saved. This is explained in full in the Privacy Policy.

Can I turn the voice off?

Per world, in that world's settings. The lines that tell you how to stop and what to watch for always play, whatever you set.

Accessibility

If something here or in the app does not work with VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Reduce Motion or any other assistive setting, write to [email protected] and describe what happened. That is a defect, not a feature request.
